While hindsight is always 20/20, I think there’s value in sharing what we would have done differently in our businesses so we can learn from one another. So without further adieu, here are three things I should have done differently from the beginning of my activewear company, Cove.
- I wish I would have accepted help sooner.
I went to college at FIT in New York City where I graduated with a degree in fashion design. I’m very type A and have always been a perfectionist. I like doing things my way.
It is very difficult with that background to accept help.
I wish I would have let help in quicker and understood that I didn’t know best. A few years in, I was so burnt out and was begging for help. At that point, I brought on my former creative director in and it was a huge relief. Sydney’s since left the company and I know I need to bring more help in. I’m kicking the idea to the curb that help is bad. I wish I would have let help in quicker. I wish I could have got a “Sydney” quicker. I should have been doing all of this years ago but that doesn’t mean I can’t start again now.
- I wish I would have taken an investor.
I come from a very successful family of entrepreneurs where ambition runs in our veins. My family that has businesses all own 100 percent of their companies, and I’ve always felt that to be successful, I have to own it outright. That idea has been such a block for me. I don’t need 100 percent. It is better to own 80 percent of something than 100 percent of nothing. Within a day of me getting over my ego and saying I’m ready for investment help, an incredible investor emailed me interested in Cove.
- I wish I recognized my limiting stories and stopped telling them to myself.
We HAVE to stop telling ourselves stories that limit our beliefs. All things are possible. Go read the post on why we should be inspired by social media influencers. They’re showing that anything is possible – for you, too! Write down whatever stories you’re telling yourself that are holding you back. Then rewrite what you want your story to be. The only thing blocking you is your limiting beliefs. Our thoughts really do shape our realities, and if you’re telling yourself empowering messages, that is how life will unfold.
Get your insides right and everything on the outside will fall into place. Telling yourself the right stories is part of this process.
A little reminder that I’m doing a five-day priming challenge beginning Monday, April 29th! You can sign up right here to join. I’ll be going live with you and teaching you my 15-minute priming routine. If you don’t know about priming, it’s an amazing way to remove negative chatter from your mind and can help you manifest what you want in life. I’d also love to hear your own “What the Eff” moments! Email me at email@example.com with the subject line “What the Eff moments.” I’d love to share your moments on the show, so email away!
