You’ve heard me talk a lot before about limiting beliefs – stories we tell ourselves that we interpret as truths that can stunt our growth.
Today, I brought in business coach Elisa Reale to talk about five common limiting beliefs that entrepreneurs feel. We’re breaking down what the belief is and what is actually going on. She shares tips and tricks to overcome those beliefs and reach new levels of success in our businesses.
Why we need to find our limiting beliefs
The truth is that if you don’t believe that you can execute, then you won’t.
“It’s hard to believe in yourself when you’re doing something new,” Elisa said. “If you’re consistently telling yourself, ‘I can’t do this,’ you’re just not going to go after it.”
Limiting belief #1: I don’t have the time or money to start a business.
What you’re really saying: You don’t believe you’re worth it.
If you think you’re going to fail, you’re not going to make that time or financial investment because you don’t think there’s a return on your investment. Create affirmations to retrain your mind to believe you are worth this, you are capable and you are successful.
If you come from it in a lack mentality, you’re going to get more of that. If you come at it with a mindset that there’s an abundance of time and money, you’re going to see more of that. What you speak out loud and in your mind literally control your reality, so start to watch what you say about time and money and speak more abundantly about it.
Money comes to me easily and effortlessly. I am a money magnet.
Elisa literally has that affirmation as a reminder on her phone and it pops up every 3-4 hours. Another amazing tip: If spending money is hard for you, then every time you purchase something, tell yourself, “There’s more of that where that came from.”
If time is something you feel you lack, try implementing these time affirmations:
I have the freedom to do as I choose with my time.
I have time for everything that is important to me.
Limiting belief #2: I’m not creative/I have nothing interesting to share.
What you’re really saying: I feel overwhelmed.
Elisa admits she struggled with this one for a really long time. It’s easy to see other people and think they’re so interesting and confident – but what makes you interesting is simply being your imperfect self.
If you have moments of not even knowing yourself, this is where meditation comes in. Getting quiet for a few minutes a day is when you actually really shine. Step away from things to get clear and quiet in your mind to get ideas flowing.
Here are some creativity affirmations she uses regularly:
Divine inspiration surrounds me.
I am filled with infinite, creative energy.
I’m ready to share my authentic expression.
Limiting belief #3: People will judge me online
What you’re really saying: I lack confidence.
“This is everyone’s big scary, I think,” Elisa said. The reality: People are going to judge your regardless – so do it your way and make yourself happy.
Elisa’s go-to affirmations to help with this:
I am aware of my gift to the world and share it freely.
I make a difference by showing up every day and doing my best.
I am compassionate with myself and others.
Limiting belief #4: I am not tech-savvy.
What you’re really saying: I don’t feel smart enough, I don’t have a degree or I’m too lazy to learn.
You do not have to be a tech-whiz to figure out how to launch a website. The internet is FILLED with free information, so just start searching one step at a time.
“The best way to get there is to just literally start,” Elisa said. “What one tiny action can you do every day to get yourself further to where you want to be?”
Need help boosting your confidence in your abilities? Here are some intelligence affirmations Elisa uses:
I am wise AF.
I am a fast learner and I memorize things with ease.
I trust in and am always connected to my divine intelligence.
I am in creation with the divine mind.
All is perfect and I am a genius in my own right.
Limiting belief #5: No one will buy from me.
What you’re really saying: I’m afraid of rejection or afraid of selling.
“Everyone’s scared of selling…No one wants to be a salesperson,” Elisa said. She encourages you to forget about selling and instead look at how you can serve others. “The work you’re doing is valuable and people want it.”
Think of how you are giving someone of value that is really going to help their life. When you come at it from that angle, it’s a better experience for you as a business owner and the client.
Need help reframing your mindset about selling? Below are four affirmations Elisa uses.
People fucking love to pay me.
I am here on earth to share an important message.
I am attracting all the people, circumstances and events I need to succeed.
I have all the tools I need to achieve my goals.
Additional ways to clear your energy
One thing Elisa does every morning is something I’m a huge believer in: Write down your goals every single day in the present tense as if it’s already true. Forget about the how. Sit for 5-10 minutes imagining how it would feel when you have all of those things, what it would look like, what you would be doing – and start BEING that person.
Another way Elisa loves to break down limiting beliefs is by doing the So Darshan Chakray Kryia Meditation every day. It’s a mental and physical release of any lies she’s telling herself – and she swears it’s helped her manifest major goals in her life.
“It will feel impossible the first couple times you do it,” Elisa said, but stay with it! Check out the link below for more info.
