That’s right, my boyfriend and I got engaged on August 24th, right here in D.C.!
I want to share all the details about our engagement with you, AND my new fiancee. L.J. Bowling is right here to tell the story with me. Let’s get to it and give you some background on L.J Bowling.
L.J. is an engineer who lives here in the D.C. area, he also works with me, and he loves our new dog, Jet. Our dog loves the new house, immediately claimed himself as king of the house and he is currently lounging around the house.
I get asked all the time how we met, so here’s the story. L.J. and I met on a dating app, Hinge, in 2018, although I’m not allowed to call him a “Hinge Husband.” I’m a big fan of Hinge, the design, and user-friendly experience. Hinge introduces you to friends of friends. L.J. and I were living in two different cities at the time, and I wasn’t expecting to find my husband at the time. L.J. then took me on our first date, we went to the Spy Museum, dinner and walked the monuments. All these were on my bucket list, which is why he took me to them.
Which, by the way, is where he proposed to me – at the monuments where we had our first date! L.J. planned to ask me there, isn’t he sweet?
L.J. opened up a Delta credit card just for our long-distance dating! We chat about our experiences together, AND L.J. spills the beans on something you don’t know about me that will surprise you! He also gives advice to other guys about decorating when you move in with your SO.
L.J. did a bait and switch when he told me we were going to celebrate my new site launch and him getting back from work. I was really, genuinely surprised, UNTIL I got to the St.Regis Hotel. At around 5pm, L.J. decided to take me down to the monument but didn’t want to ask me in front of other people. We walked around a bit, and there were big crowds everywhere, and he almost called it and didn’t ask me to marry him. As we were walking back, L.J. found a path which led to an area next to a pond which was secluded and private, then he proposed!
From the girl’s perspective, here’s what went down. I felt something in his back pocket when I accidentally touched him, not thinking he had a ring in his pocket. Besides, he was wearing the worst shorts to hide a ring! We were walking around the Lincoln Memorial, sat down on a bench, then found the spot where he led me to ask me to marry him. As we were walking, he pulled me close to him, and he started giving me the ‘big speech.’ I forgot most of it, but I do remember him telling me, “This year has been the best part of his life.”.
The remainder of the weekend was beautiful, and we were able to spend time together, FaceTimed our parents the news, and the hotel celebrated our engagement with us!
